Indiana State Rep. Jim Lucas has the Right Stuff

Lucas plans to introduce legislation that would allow Hoosiers to carry handguns without a permit. Called by some “constitutional carry,” such laws are on the books in 11 states, including three that passed them just this year, and are under consideration in several more.

The central argument for such laws is pretty compelling. If something is a constitutional right, which “bearing arms” is, why should we need what is essentially a government permission slip?

“To me it’s immoral and even it is criminal ... to force an innocent person to jump through hoops and pay money to the state to prove their innocence and exercise a constitutional right,” Lucas said.

Here is the story as published in the Fort Wayne Indiana News-Sentinel

Editorial: Do we need permission to exercise a right
