Origin of Left & Right.
I have often wondered why it is that Conservatives are
called the "Right" and Liberals are called the "Left."
By chance I stumbled upon this verse in the Bible: "The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart
of the fool to the left." Ecclesiastes 10:2 (NIV)
Thus sayeth the Lord. Amen. Can't get any simpler than that.
And now for a Spelling Lesson.
The last four letters in American..........I Can
The last four letters in Republican.......I Can
The last four letters in Democrats........Rats
End of lesson. Test to follow in November, 2012.
Remember, November is to be set aside as rodent removal month.
It was was about 1955. We were living in Louisiana at the time. Dad was in the Army and stationed there. Cuba was fairly close and in the news a lot.
Eisenhower was president. This past July 4th, we had the pleasure of sharing a summer barbecue with a refugee from Cuba. Our dinner conversation was starkly different than most. This refugee came to the United States as a young boy in the early 1960's. His family was more fortunate than most, as they were able to bring a suitcase and $100 when they fled Castro's newly formed revolutionary paradise.
Our dinner consisted of all-American fare: hamburgers, potato salad, fresh ears of sweet corn and watermelon. This is a menu shared with family and friends nationwide...while celebrating the birth of our beloved America ...on the Fourth of July.
We began with a simple discussion about our country, and the direction it has taken since Barack Obama came to power. We shared the usual complaints about the sour economy and liberal social engineering emanating from the rulers in Washington.
But then he said it. The sentence flowed naturally from our refugee guest. I assume it was unplanned. But it carried the weight of a freight train. "You know when Castro took power, none of us knew he was a Communist". We sat stunned. He continued, "Yes, we all thought he was a patriot, a nationalist. Before the revolution he didn't sound like a radical."
The comparison at this point was easy, and I interjected, "You mean just like Barack Obama?" He responded; "Yes, just like Barack Obama."
He continued, "We were all shocked as the government just continued to grab more power. First they said the revolution is over, so please turn in your guns. We all complied." I also remember my uncle saying; Castro will only nationalize some of the big industries. He will never come and take our family hardware store!!
But that is exactly what happened. Castro started with the sugar mills and the large industries, but they eventually came and knocked on the door of our family hardware store. My family had run this store for generations. They said we now own the hardware store, you work for us. And that four-bedroom home you own...it is now our property too. You have to move yourself and the five children into those two rooms of the house, because others are moving in here with you."
The lesson learned from this discussion, is a lesson most Americans refuse to hear. Political leaders can lie about their agenda and once in office, they can take totally unexpected turns. If you had asked us three years ago if we thought General Motors or Chrysler would be nationalized, we would have never believed it.
We could never contemplate a country where the rule of law, the most fundamental building block of a justice society...would be evaporating, just like it did in Castro's Cuba in the early 1960's. But the news of injustice keeps increasing; Black Panthers are not charged with wrong doing by the U.S. Department of Justice...because their crimes are against whites; The bond holders of GM are stripped of their assets...without being given due process by the government; Car Dealerships are closed with out due process; Governmental leaders are bribed in full daylight...only to have all investigation of the crimes stifled...by the Attorney General; The U.S. Borders are over run with crime and illegal activity, and the leaders in D.C. act as if it is important to protect the lawbreakers...while the innocent are killed and over run;
When local communities attempt to enforce the law, they are ridiculed...and threatened as racists and bigots. They are sued by the very administration entrusted with enforcing the law. Without the rule of law, the U.S. Constitution is a sham.
Without the rule of law, our beloved America is swiftly becoming a country where only the well connected and politically powerful will be safe. As an author recently and so eloquently explained in her most recent book..."a culture of corruption has replaced honest government" (Michelle Malkin).
The only way this problem will be fixed, is by massive citizen action. All honest citizens that want to be treated equally, must come together...and demand that the favoritism, the bribes, the uneven enforcement of law...end now!! And yes, it can happen if we all pull together.
6 million plus Jews didn't believe it could happen in Germany either!!!
If you're a Christian or Jew in these United States of America, you're probably next on the list. History bears that out. The real problem here is, the boy from Cuba did manage to make it to the U.S. Today he and we will not have any place to escape to...except death! And, for the most part...
AS A COUNTRY, HAVE WE BECOME THIS COMPLACENT? WILL YOU JUST TURN YOUR BACK AND LIVE WITH THE CONSEQUENCES? I HOPE NOT.

The question is: How did it take so long for charlatans like Barack Obama to seize power and drive the final stake through Thomas Jefferson's Constitution?
Roman Citizens were blind to the perils of Bread and Circuses 2000 years ago. Just as today, the Senators and Emperors are living high on the hog while the rest of us are - amused and distracted by sleight of hand and spectacle.
I think I'm gonna puke.
SAN FRANCISCO - At an exclusive re-election fundraiser tonight, President Obama hobnobbed with 60 of his wealthiest supporters, including two figures at the center of the Solyndra loan controversy.
Steve Westly, a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, was one of the first to raise red flags about the administration's support for a $500 million loan to Solyndra, the solar energy start-up that later went bankrupt. He wrote directly to senior Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett in 2010 to raise concerns about the company's viability ahead of the president's high-profile visit that year.
Matt Rogers, a former senior adviser at the Department of Energy, played a key role in approving Solyndra's loan as part of the stimulus plan.
Both men were spotted by White House print pool reporter Darren Samuelsohn of Politico at the Piedmont, Calif., home of Quinn Delaney and Wayne Jordan, who were hosting the $35,800-a-head event.
Samuelsohn noted that Westly was seen near the pool "juggling lemons, entertaining kids at the party."
Republicans have seized on Obama's ties to Westly and Rogers - and the Solyndra loan - as part of their case that the president engages in "crony capitalism."
"The Obama Administration betrayed American taxpayers when it dumped hundreds of millions of public dollars into Solyndra while ignoring clear warnings about the company's dire financial situation," Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said in a statement.
"President Obama's first term worked out well for his donors who got special access and taxpayer money for their failed ventures," Williams said. "It hasn't worked as well for the 23 million Americans struggling for work in the worst economic recovery our country has ever had."

Thomas Jefferson Quotes
Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)
The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Was the government to prescribe to us our medicine and diet, our bodies would be in such keeping as our souls are now.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (Quoting Cesare Beccaria)
The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.
The policy of the American government is to leave their citizens free, neither restraining nor aiding them in their pursuits.
No man has a natural right to commit aggression on the equal rights of another, and this is all from which the laws ought to restrain him.
To take from one because it is thought that his own industry and that of his father’s has acquired too much, in order to spare to others, who, or whose fathers, have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association—the guarantee to every one of a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it.
I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious. (Back then!)
When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty.
I am not a friend to a very energetic government. It is always oppressive.
Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.
The god who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.
And the day will come, when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as His Father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva, in the brain of Jupiter.
In matters of style, swim with the current;
In matters of principle, stand like a rock.
What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance?
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all.
The majority, oppressing an individual, is guilty of a crime, abuses its strength, and by acting on the law of the strongest breaks up the foundations of society.
When wrongs are pressed because it is believed they will be borne, resistance becomes morality.
Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread.
The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods, or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty.... And what country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure.
Of liberty I would say that, in the whole plenitude of its extent, it is unobstructed action according to our will. But rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add “within the limits of the law,” because law is often but the tyrant’s will, and always so when it violates the right of an individual.
It is strangely absurd to suppose that a million of human beings, collected together, are not under the same moral laws which bind each of them separately.
Liberty is the great parent of science and of virtue; and a nation will be great in both in proportion as it is free.
He who knows nothing is closer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
I have sworn on the altar of God eternal hostility against every form of tyranny over the mind of man.
I have never been able to conceive how any rational being could propose happiness to himself from the exercise of power over others.
To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
In a government bottomed on the will of all, the...liberty of every individual citizen becomes interesting to all.
I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
Say nothing of my religion. It is known to God and myself alone. Its evidence before the world is to be sought in my life: if it has been honest and dutiful to society the religion which has regulated it cannot be a bad one.
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Most bad government has grown out of too much government.
Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty.
The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.
A wise and frugal government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, which shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned. This is the sum of good government.
I never will, by any word or act, bow to the shrine of intolerance or admit a right of inquiry into the religious opinions of others.
Sometimes it is said that man cannot be trusted with the government of himself. Can he, then, be trusted with the government of others?
A free people [claim] their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their chief magistrate.
The right of self-government does not comprehend the government of others.
An elective despotism was not the government we fought for.
History, in general, only informs us what bad government is.
If there is one principle more deeply rooted in the mind of every American, it is that we should have nothing to do with conquest.
It is better to tolerate that rare instance of a parent’s refusing to let his child be educated, than to shock the common feelings by a forcible transportation and education of the infant against the will of his father.
The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground.
I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just.
The man who reads nothing at all is better than educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers.
I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature.
In every country and every age, the priest has been hostile to Liberty.
Just this week it was announced that the average net-worth of Americans has fallen below that of our neighbors to the north.
It won't be long before illegal alien insurgents from Mexico will be bypassing the USA to sneak into Canada. As the standard of livng here in the USA drops due to socialist policies, higher taxation, less representation, and a plummeting level of available medical care, I may be sneaking into Canada soon myself.
God help the USA.
A pickup truck carrying 23 people veered off a Texas highway and crashed late Sunday, killing 13 and injuring 10 others.
The Ford F-250 Super Duty pickup was was traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 when it crashed into two large trees near Goliad, Texas, about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio, Texas Highway Patrol trooper Gerald Bryant told KTRK-TV.
Some of the victims were airlifted to hospitals in San Antonio and Corpus Christi. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, police said.
"In my 38 years as an officer, this is one of the worst fatalities I have been to," Bryant said. "I have never seen where we had that many in a vehicle."
The victims were crammed in the cab and bed of the pickup truck.
"Based on the mode of travel, the way that the people were in the vehicle, it's a high probability there were illegal immigrants traveling northbound on 59," Texas Dept. of Safety Lt. Glen Garrett told KIII-TV.
According to CNN, U.S. border patrol and "immigration and customs enforcement agents were called to the scene." The names of the victims have yet to be released. According to MySanAntonio.com, the vehicle was registered to an owner in Houston. The driver of the vehicle was one of the survivors.

The day the democrats took over was not January 22, 2009, it was actually January 3, 2007 - the very start of the 110th Congress.
- At that time: The DOW Jones closed at 12,621.77
- The GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
- The Unemployment rate was 4.6%
- George Bush's Economic policies SET A RECORD of 52 STRAIGHT MONTHS of JOB GROWTH
Remember the day... January 3, 2007 was the day that Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee and Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee. The economic meltdown that happened 15 months later was in what part of the economy? BANKING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES!
President Bush asked Congress 17 TIMES to stop Fannie & Freddie - starting in 2001 because it was financially risky for the U.S. economy.
And who fought against reform of Fannie and Freddie? OBAMA and the Democrat Congress.
So when someone tries to blame Bush - REMEMBER JANUARY 3, 2007.... THE DAY THE DEMOCRATS TOOK OVER!" Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January, 2007 is the Democratic Party. Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
For 2009, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets.
And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009.
What Democrats inherited was the 2007 budget, the last of the Republican budgets.
That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets.
If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. Obama inherited a deficit that he voted for, and then he voted to expand four-fold since January 20, 2009.

Accounting firm Ernst and Young released a study showing that Obama's proposed tax hikes on the wealthy could cost the already sputtering economy more than 700,000 jobs. The Ernst and Young study looked at the impact of seeing the top marginal tax rates rise—but also studied the effects of a range of other proposals included in the president's budget and broader tax plans.
"Our economy is still struggling under President Obama's policies, and his massive tax hike will only make things tougher," Speaker of the House Boehner said in a statement. "It's one of the worst possible ideas at one of the worst possible times for families and small businesses.
This report shows the president's small business tax hike threatens hundreds of thousands of jobs, and will lead to even less economic growth, less investment and lower wages for American workers."
Obama has been campaigning on calls to extend the Bush-era tax cuts on income up to $250,000 but let them expire above that level. He and fellow Democrats have accused Republicans of holding middle-class tax relief hostage to help the very rich (in fact, the wealthy would see the benefits on their first $250,000 of income). Recent polls have suggested that the public broadly supports the president in principle, though Republicans have noted that his proposal does not yet exist as legislation, and Democrats are expected to water down some of the president's recommended changes.
The report examines four sets of provisions that would increase the top tax rates:
· The increase in the top two tax rates from 33 to 36 percent and from 35 to 39.6 percent.
· The reinstatement of the limitation on itemized deductions for high-income taxpayers (the "Pease" provision).
· The taxation of dividends as ordinary income and at a top income tax rate of 39.6 percent and increase in the top tax rate applied to capital gains to 20 percent.
· The increase in the 2.9 percent Medicare tax to 3.8 percent for high-income taxpayers and the application of the new 3.8 percent tax on investment income including flow-through business income, interest, dividends and capital gains.
Here is what the accounting firm concluded would happen:
· Output in the long-run would fall by 1.3 percent, or $200 billion, in today's economy.
· Employment in the long-run would fall by 0.5 percent, or roughly 710,000 fewer jobs, in today's economy.
· Capital stock and investment in the long-run would fall by 1.4 percent and 2.4 percent, respectively.
· Real after-tax wages would fall by 1.8 percent, reflecting a decline in workers' living standards relative to what would have occurred otherwise.
Ernst and Young prepared the report on behalf of several pro-business groups, including the Independent Community Bankers of America, the National Federation of Independent Business, the S Corporation Association and the United States Chamber of Commerce. (One of the co-authors, Robert Carroll, served as deputy assistant secretary for tax analysis in George W. Bush's Treasury Department.) Asked for a formal response to the study, two White House officials declined to do so on the record.

Just for comparison purposes, Obama gave 1% and Joe Biden gave $300 or .0013%.
Mitt Romney is Trustworthy:
He will show us his birth certificate
He will show us his high school and college transcripts.
He will show us his social security card.
He will show us his law degree.
He will show us his draft notice.
He will show us his medical records.
He will show us his income tax records.
He will show us he has nothing to hide.
Mitt Romney's background, experience and trustworthiness show him to be a great leader and an excellent citizen for President of the United States.
You may think that Romney may not be the best representative the Republicans could have selected. At least We know what religion he is, and that he won't desecrate the flag, bow down to foreign powers, or practice fiscal irresponsibility.
We know he has the ability to turn this financial debacle that the current regime has gotten us into. We won't like all the things necessary to recover from this debt, but someone with Romney's background can do it.
Contrary to President Obama, Mitt Romney never was a "Community Organizer", never took drugs or smoked pot, never got drunk, did not associate with communists or terrorists, nor did he attend a church whose pastor called for God to damn the US.

The Democratic Party has become the Lawyers Party.
- Barack Obama is a lawyer. Michelle Obama is a lawyer.
- Hillary Clinton is a lawyer. Bill Clinton is a lawyer.
- John Edwards is a lawyer. Elizabeth Edwards was a lawyer.
- Every Democrat nominee since 1984 went to law school (although Gore did not graduate).
- Every Democrat vice presidential nominee since 1976, except for Lloyd Bentsen, went to law school.
- Look at leaders of the Democrat Party in Congress: Harry Reid is a lawyer. Nancy Pelosi is a lawyer.
The Republican Party is different.
- President Bush is a businessman.
- Vice President Cheney is a businessman.
- The leaders of the Republican Revolution:
- Newt Gingrich was a history professor.
- Tom Delay was an exterminator. Dick Armey was an economist.
- Speaker of the House John Boehner was a plastic manufacturer.
- The former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is a heart surgeon.
Who was the last Republican president who was a lawyer? Gerald Ford, who left office 31 years ago and who barely won the Republican nomination as a sitting president, running against Ronald Reagan in 1976.
The Republican Party is made up of real people doing real work, who are often the targets of lawyers.
The Democrat Party is made up of lawyers. Democrats mock and scorn men who create wealth, like Bush and Cheney, or who heal the sick, likeFrist, or who immerse themselves in history, like Gingrich. The Lawyers Party sees these sorts of people, who provide goods and services that people want, as the enemies of America. And, so we have seen the procession of official enemies, in the eyes of the Lawyers Party, grow.
Against whom do Hillary and Obama rail?....Pharmaceutical companies, oil companies, hospitals, manufacturers, fast food restaurant chains, large retail businesses, bankers, and anyone producing anything of value in our nation. This is the natural consequence of viewing everything through the eyes of lawyers. Lawyers solve problems by successfully representing their clients, in this case the American people. Lawyers seek to have new laws passed, they seek to win lawsuits, they press appellate courts to overturn precedent, and lawyers always parse language to favor their side.
Confined to the narrow practice of law, that is fine. But it is an awful way to govern a great nation. When politicians as lawyers begin to view some Americans as clients and other Americans as opposing parties, then the role of the legal system in our life becomes all-consuming. Some Americans become adverse parties of our very government. We are not all litigants in some vast social class-action suit. We are citizens of a republic that promises us a great deal of freedom from laws, from courts, and from lawyers.
Today, we are drowning in laws; we are contorted by judicial decisions; we are driven to distraction by omnipresent lawyers in all parts of our once private lives. America has a place for laws and lawyers, but that place is modest and reasonable, not vast and unchecked. When the most important decision for our next president is whom he will appoint to the Supreme Court, the role of lawyers and the law in America is too big.
When House Democrats sue America in order to hamstring our efforts to learn what our enemies are planning to do to us, then the role of litigation in America has become crushing.
Perhaps Americans will understand that change cannot be brought to our nation by those lawyers who already largely dictate American society and business. Perhaps Americans will see that hope does not come from the mouths of lawyers but from personal dreams nourished by hard work. Perhaps Americans will embrace the truth that more lawyers with more power will only make our problems worse.
The United States has 5% of the world’s population and 66% of the world’s lawyers! Tort (Legal) reform legislation has been introduced in congress several times in the last several years to limit punitive damages in ridiculous lawsuits such as spilling hot coffee on yourself and suing the establishment that sold it to you and also to limit punitive damages in huge medical malpractice lawsuits. This legislation has continually been blocked from even being voted on by the Democrat Party. When you see that 97% of the political contributions from the American Trial Lawyers Association go to the Democrat Party, then you realize who is responsible for our medical and product costs being so high!
Michigan Republican Rep. Thaddeus McCotter, who launched a short-lived White House bid in 2011, announced Friday that he was resigning from Congress, citing personal family issues.
"After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family," McCotter said in a statement. "As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave."
In March, McCotter failed to acquire the necessary amount of signatures to appear on the party's primary ballot to represent his district near Detroit. He initially launched a write-in campaign, but announced last month he would end his efforts, choosing instead to retire from Congress when his term ended in January 2013.
He was first elected in 2002.
Here's the full statement of his resignation, which McCotter posted on his Facebook page Friday afternoon:
"Today I have resigned from the office of United States Representative for Michigan's 11th Congressional District.
After nearly 26 years in elected office, this past nightmarish month and a half have, for the first time, severed the necessary harmony between the needs of my constituency and of my family. As this harmony is required to serve, its absence requires I leave.
The recent event's totality of calumnies, indignities and deceits have weighed most heavily upon my family. Thus, acutely aware one cannot rebuild their hearth of home amongst the ruins of their U.S. House office, for the sake of my loved ones I must "strike another match, go start anew" by embracing the promotion back from public servant to sovereign citizen.
I do not leave for an existing job and face diminishing prospects (and am both unwilling and ill-suited to lobby), my priorities are twofold: find gainful employment to help provide for my family; and continue to assist, in any way they see fit, the Michigan Attorney General's earnest and thorough investigation, which I requested, into the 2012 petition filing.
While our family takes this step into the rest of our lives, we do so with the ultimate confidence in our country's future. True, as at other times in the life of our nation, we live in an Age of Extremes that prizes intensity over sanity; rhetoric over reality; and destruction over creation. But this too shall pass, thanks to the infinite, inspired wisdom of the sovereign people who, with God's continued blessings, will again affirm for the generations American Exceptionalism.
Truly, it is a challenging and fortunate time to live in our blessed sanctuary of liberty.
In closing, to The People of Michigan's 11th Congressional District, I can but say this: Thank you for the privilege of having worked for you."
~ Thaddeus G. McCotter

Fortune Magazine in the bag for Holder and Obama
(GunReports.com) — In support of Attorney General Eric H. Holder, Jr. and his congressional allies this week was an obviously coordinated media campaign, aimed at rewriting the history of "Fast and Furious" and smearing the whistleblowing BATFE agents who alerted Congress to the scandal, the NRA-ILA reports.
In an article published the day before the vote and written by a former Bill Clinton campaign operative, Fortune magazine claimed that virtually everything we know about this disaster--after more than a year of investigations by House and Senate committees and by every media outlet in the country that's dared to touch the issue--is false. Tellingly, many of Fortune's sources were agents "speaking out for the first time." (Another BATFE official, who had not previously spoken to the media, gave an interview that appeared in the Washington Post the day of the vote.)
In its piece, Fortune claimed:
That Agent John Dodson and other whistleblowers who brought the operation to light were actually rogue agents who jeopardized their careers at the BATFE just to settle scores over petty disputes with a supervisor--who happens to be Fortune's main source and the "hero" of the article.
That Agent Dodson had actually (in a separate and much smaller case) advocated using the same tactics he risked his career to denounce in "Fast and Furious." What's more believable: Fortune's version, or Agent Dodson's explanation that he proposed the tactic on orders of his supervisor, who was also in charge of "Fast and Furious"?
That gun prosecutions were thwarted by a pro-gun federal prosecutor, even though that prosecutor worked for U.S. Attorney Dennis Burke, who had a long record of anti-gun activity on Capitol Hill and in the Clinton White House.
Most outrageously, if these allegations are true, the Justice Department itself falsely admitted that "gunwalking" tactics were used--for example, when Attorney General Holder acknowledged that in his Nov. 8, 2011 testimony--even though the embarrassing admission deepened the congressional investigation.
And if the Justice Department was wrong to rescind the Feb. 2011 letter denying that "gunwalking" occurred," the subpoenaed documents concerning that letter should show that. If the documents might exonerate the administration, why are the White House and Justice Department fighting so hard against releasing them?
Fortune also repeats a string of lies about the larger context of "Fast and Furious":
—That the real problem is weak gun laws, including the lack of "a real-time database of gun sales"--in other words, national gun registration. It should be no surprise that Fortune points to that, when there are already at least three emails proving that the BATFE wanted to use information from "Fast and Furious" to support its border-state registration scheme for multiple rifle sales.
-—hat it's "nearly impossible" to bring cases against straw purchasers--even though the BATFE website contains dozens of press releases announcing the arrest, conviction and sentencing of straw purchasers. That straw purchasing penalties are "minimal."
Here are the penalties Fortune calls "minimal": Any statement to a licensed dealer that is "intended or likely" to deceive the dealer about the legality of a sale is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
"Knowingly making any false statement" in a dealer's records--such as falsely claiming on a transfer form that you are the actual buyer--is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
That "2,000 weapons are smuggled daily from the U.S. into Mexico." There is no credible source for this figure. If it were true, smuggling to Mexico would account for 730,000 guns a year--nearly a tenth of the guns produced in the U.S. or imported here every year. That's obviously impossible.
—Another recurring claim this week was that "gunwalking" began under the Bush administration. In reality, there is no parallel between "Fast and Furious" and earlier operations such as "Wide Receiver." Specifically:
In "Wide Receiver," the Mexican government was informed and involved, and was supposed to interdict the guns as they were tracked into Mexico. In "Fast & Furious," the Mexican government was never informed and was never called on to interdict any of the guns.
—The guns lost in the "Wide Receiver" program were lost primarily by the Mexican authorities, or due to the failure of electronic tracking devices. In "Fast & Furious," agents were specifically ordered to end surveillance.
—“Wide Receiver" was shut down when BATFE officials learned of the lost guns. It took the death of Brian Terry to shut down "Fast & Furious."
—“Wide Receiver" involved a few hundred guns, most of which were recovered. The program nevertheless was considered a failure by BATFE officials and was terminated for that reason. "Fast & Furious" involved thousands of guns, the bulk of which are still at large.
Google wants you to know that it is thinking of your "safety" as it announced that anything to do with firearms on its Google Shopping service is forbidden. Further, firearms customers have recently found that Google Shopping won't give them any search results for firearm-related products anymore.
The folks at HamLund Tactical posted the letter received from Google on a gun enthusiast's message board called 68forums. In that letter, Google informs dealers in firearm accessories and ammunition that they will no longer be allowed to sell their wares through the Google service.
HamLund was told that starting July 1 Google has implemented the new policy. The letter says:
"We do not allow the promotion or sale of weapons and any related products such as ammunitions or accessory kits on Google Shopping. In order to comply with our new policies, please remove any weapon-related products from your data feed and then re-submit your feed in the Merchant Center."
This goes for knives as well as firearms and related products.
News of the Google decision ran through the firearms community and related Internet message boards and blogs like Obama going through campaign cash.
Speaking of campaign cash, Bill Vollono of Townhall thinks he might have an idea of just why Google has decided to ban sales of guns and accessories on Google Shopping. Google and its owners are huge Obama campaign donors not to mention recipients of Obama largesse.
Vollono notes that Google and its various employees and owners have donated over $608,000 to Obama's reelection campaign. Skeptics will point out that during his first four years in the Oval Office, Barack Obama has been absent on gun control issues.
But that doesn't mean he intends to stay mum on guns. Second Amendment supporters have had the upper hand over the last decade and Obama knows this. Every state but one, for instance, now has some sort of shall issue law on the books and gun supporters have succeeded in taking the issue away from Democrats almost entirely. Few Democrats mention gun control on the stump and only crime-ridden Chicago is still looking for sly, un-Constitutional ways to ban firearms.
Obama appears to be setting the stage for gun control in his second term. Fast & Furious was supposed to be, in part, a gun control scheme. The Fast & Furious operation intended to ship secretly thousands of American guns to Mexican narco-terrorists. When those guns were used to kill Mexicans and Americans, the "evidence" of gun violence would support an effort to crack down on guns sales in the US.
However, once Obama doesn't need to worry about re-election, he'll be "more flexible" on the second amendment. Consequently, we could see a more aggressive effort to restrict the right to keep and bear arms.
And Google? They are just trying to anticipate their favorite President's second term campaign against the Second Amendment.
